You have the right to remain silent. You are not obliged to answer police questions beyond providing your name and address in certain circumstances. Anything you say can and will be used as evidence. Speaking to a solicitor before any police interview is not optional; it is essential.
You have the right to have a solicitor present at any police interview. You are also entitled to free legal advice from a duty solicitor at the police station regardless of your financial circumstances. You do not need to pass a means test to access this service.
